About M3 Group
The M3 Group (Multiphysics and Multiscale Modelling Group) develops predictive mathematical, data-driven and computational models to understand complex phenomena in chemical, biological and environmental systems. By integrating first-principles modelling with data-driven approaches across multiple scales, the group advances model-based design and optimisation of complex systems.

Predictive Modelling
The M3 Group develops predictive models that capture coupled multiphysics and multiscale phenomena governing complex systems. Our research combines fundamental physical laws, mechanistic modelling and data-driven methods to enable accurate prediction of system behaviour under varying conditions. Emphasis is placed on model interpretability, robustness and scalability to ensure applicability across diverse chemical, biological and environmental processes.
Optimisation
The group applies model-based optimisation to support improved system and process design as well as optimal operating strategies. By embedding predictive models within optimisation frameworks, we address challenges such as performance enhancement, efficiency improvement and operational reliability. Our optimisation research spans deterministic and data-informed approaches, enabling informed decision-making for complex engineered systems.
